PROJECT GOALS

Design Workshop with Suby Bowden and Associates and Bohannan Huston have been hired to create a final design that addresses the following community desires and goals:

Based on a series of public meetings beginning in 2004 and resolutions set forth by City Council, a set of goals have been established for the Northwest Quadrant. These goals are marked by an emphasis on affordability, sustainability and preservation of open space. The intent is to make Santa Fe proud of this use of public lands. To this end, the following goals have been outlined for the development:

  • It contains a substantial number of affordably-priced and moderately priced housing.
  • It is desired to be a sustainable development focusing on water conservation, green building techniques, low energy use and other innovative features.
  • It incorporates excellence in design that results in a high quality of life for residents as measured by accessible trails, recreational areas, natural open spaces and transit opportunities.
  • Residents that live in the neighborhood represent a broad cross section of the community as economically and socially diverse as the city itself.
  • The neighborhood harmonizes with existing and adjacent residential, commercial and recreational uses.
  • The neighborhood plan reflects the goals and desires of the public through an inclusive public process.
  • Opportunities for a mixed-use activity center are included as a feature of the neighborhood, based on the public expressions of desire.
  • The traffic plan in the master plan is developed in coordination with the recommendations of the NM 599 Safety Study.
